Car Accidents in California

Bellflower, CA - Tesla, BMW Collide on I405 N Near Bellflower BlvdCalifornia has one of the highest rates of vehicle collisions in the country. With millions of vehicles on the road each day, accidents are unfortunately common across the state. In 2022 alone, California saw over 200,000 injuries from traffic-related incidents. Factors like dense traffic, aggressive driving habits, and distracted driving all contribute to this growing issue.

When it comes to vehicle crashes in California, it helps to understand what commonly causes them. Below are some of the most frequently reported reasons behind accidents across the state:

  • Distracted Driving: From cell phones to in-car screens, drivers often take their eyes off the road. Even a momentary distraction can lead to severe consequences.
  • Tailgating and Following Too Closely: Many crashes happen when drivers fail to maintain a safe distance. Following too closely reduces reaction time and increases the chance of rear-end collisions.
  • Lane Changes Without Signaling: Drivers who shift lanes without warning often leave others unable to respond in time. This is especially dangerous on highways and multi-lane roads.
  • Driving Under the Influence: Impaired driving continues to be a leading cause of serious and fatal crashes in California. Alcohol, drugs, or medication can all impair judgment and motor skills.
  • Speeding: Driving above the speed limit or too fast for road conditions reduces control and increases crash severity. Speed is a contributing factor in a large portion of California crashes.
