Claremont, CA – Fatal Crash Involving Fire Truck on I-10 Near Mills Ave

Claremont, CA (June 24, 2025) – A driver died early Tuesday morning, June 24, after slamming into a fire truck on the 10 Fwy near Mills Ave.

California Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 4:37 a.m. as firefighters responded to a separate incident. A Toyota Tundra drove into the back of the parked fire engine. The driver died at the scene.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed their crew had already been on location for a previous crash when the second collision occurred. None of the firefighters were hurt.

Authorities closed two right lanes of the eastbound 10 Fwy to investigate and clear the area. A SigAlert was issued due to the lane closures.

Officials have not yet released the name of the deceased driver. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

We send our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim and hope for healing as the investigation continues.

Fatal Freeway Accidents in Los Angeles

Crashes involving emergency vehicles happen more often than many people realize. These accidents can turn tragic in an instant, especiallyLos Angeles, CA – Man Killed in Hit-and-Run at Avenue 19 and Humboldt St when visibility is low or when drivers fail to slow down near crash scenes.

California’s “Move Over” law requires drivers to slow down or change lanes when approaching emergency vehicles with flashing lights. However, many motorists ignore this rule or don’t notice emergency scenes in time. This can lead to serious injuries or, as in this case, loss of life.

Accidents on busy highways like I-10 are particularly dangerous. Vehicles travel at high speeds, and even a brief distraction or delayed reaction can have fatal results. When a vehicle crashes into a fire truck, the weight and force of the collision often mean the outcome is severe.

Surviving family members may not immediately realize they have legal rights following a fatal crash. In cases like this, a wrongful death claim may be possible. Such a claim can help cover funeral costs, lost financial support, and the emotional suffering of losing a loved one too soon.

In fatal crashes involving government vehicles, like fire trucks, special legal rules might apply. An attorney with experience in claims against public entities can help navigate this complex process. Timing is especially important, as claims against the government often have shorter deadlines.

If you have lost a loved one in a freeway accident, speaking with a personal injury or wrongful death attorney can provide clarity. They can guide you on what to expect and how to protect your family’s financial future during an incredibly difficult time.
