Santa Clarita, CA – Sheriff’s Deputy Injured After E-Bike Crash Near Avenida Rancho Tesoro & Stoney Creek Rd

Santa Clarita, CA (May 15, 2026) – A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department motorcycle deputy was taken to the hospital Thursday evening, May 14, after a crash involving two teen riders on electric dirt bikes in Santa Clarita. The collision happened at around 6:30 p.m. near Avenida Rancho Tesoro and Stoney Creek Road.

The deputy was attempting to conduct an enforcement stop on the two teens, who were riding dirt bike-style e-bikes in the area. During the stop, one of the riders affected the deputy’s movement, leading to the crash. The deputy was transported to the hospital and is expected to recover.

Authorities located both teens following the incident and arrested them on suspicion of reckless driving. The exact mechanics of how the crash unfolded have not been fully confirmed.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office continues to review the circumstances of the collision.

We wish the injured deputy a smooth and full recovery.

Can Police Officers Seek Compensation After Being Injured in a Crash in California?

Yes, police officers injured in a crash in California can seek compensation, and in many cases, they have access to more than one avenue for recovery. While officers receive workers’ compensation benefits through their employer for on-the-job injuries, California law does not prevent them from also pursuing a personal injury claim against a third party whose negligence caused the crash.

Workers’ compensation covers medical expenses and a portion of lost wages, but it does not compensate for pain and suffering or the full extent of non-economic losses. A personal injury claim filed against the at-fault party can bridge that gap.

California follows a pure comparative fault system, meaning an injured person can recover compensation even if they bear some partial responsibility for the crash. In that case, their award simply gets reduced by their percentage of fault. For a deputy injured while performing an enforcement stop on a public road in Santa Clarita, establishing the other party’s negligence is central to any third-party claim.

Documenting injuries thoroughly from the start matters in these cases. Medical records, the sheriff’s department incident report, and any available footage from the area near Stoney Creek Road all help build a stronger claim. Acting early preserves that evidence before it becomes harder to obtain. A personal injury attorney can review the specific facts of the crash and explain how the firefighter’s rule may or may not apply.
