Los Angeles, CA – One Dead, One Critical in Fiery Multi-Car Crash on I-10 E Near Robertson Blvd

Los Angeles, CA (May 5, 2026) – A fiery multi-car crash on eastbound Interstate 10 near Robertson Boulevard in the Palms area of Los Angeles left one person dead and another in critical condition on Monday, May 4, at approximately 7:15 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find one car fully engulfed in flames and worked quickly to extinguish the fire.

After putting out the flames, crews found one person at the scene who had died. A second person was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. A third person, who bystanders had detained at the scene, was also transported for medical evaluation in unknown condition.

The crash caused significant disruption on the freeway, with aerial footage showing traffic backed up for miles. Only one lane remained open as investigators surveyed the scene and waited for crews to clear the wreckage from the road. The freeway remained heavily impacted for an extended period following the collision.

The circumstances that led to the crash remain under investigation. The California Highway Patrol has not confirmed what caused the accident or released the identities of those involved.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the person who lost their life, and our thoughts remain with those still receiving medical care.

Legal Options Families Have After a Fatal Car Accident in Los Angeles

After a fatal car accident in Los Angeles, surviving family members may file a wrongful death claim to seek compensation for their loss, and in some cases, a survival action may also be available on behalf of the deceased person’s estate. California law provides families with specific legal tools designed to address both the financial and personal impact of losing a loved one in a crash.

California’s wrongful death law allows certain family members, including spouses, children, and other dependents, to file a claim against the party responsible for causing the fatal crash. Compensation available through a wrongful death claim can include funeral and burial expenses, the financial support the deceased would have provided over their lifetime, and the loss of companionship, guidance, and care that family members depended on.

The value of a wrongful death claim depends heavily on the specific circumstances of the crash and the role the deceased played in the family’s life.

Overall, prompt action after a fatal crash helps preserve that evidence before it becomes harder to access. Surveillance footage, vehicle data, and physical evidence from the crash scene can all disappear or degrade quickly if not secured early.

Lastly, bear in mind that California law gives families two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death claim. While two years may seem like sufficient time, a car accident lawyer will tell you that building a strong case requires gathering evidence, securing witness accounts, obtaining official reports, and consulting with experts when necessary.
