Los Angeles, CA (May 29, 2026) – A motorcyclist was killed early Thursday morning, May 28, after a Freightliner Cascadia truck struck him during a left turn on Bradley Avenue in Sun Valley and fled the scene without stopping. The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the crash happened around 4:20 a.m.
Investigators said that a 64-year-old Edvard Gyulnazaryan of Glendale was driving the white 2017 Freightliner northbound on Bradley Avenue and turned left into a business when the motorcyclist attempted to pass. The motorcycle and the truck collided during the turn. Gyulnazaryan continued onto the business property without rendering aid or exchanging information as required by law.
Detectives identified both the vehicle and the driver during the investigation. Gyulnazaryan later returned to the scene and was taken into custody without incident. He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing death and booked into Van Nuys Jail.
The identity of the motorcyclist killed in the accident has not been released pending notification of the family. The investigation into the wreck remains active.
We extend our deepest condolences to the rider’s family and all those who loved him.
What Legal Options Does a Motorcyclist’s Family Have After a Fatal Hit-and-Run in Los Angeles, CA?
When a motorcyclist is killed in a hit-and-run crash in Los Angeles, the family may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver. When a commercial truck is involved, a claim can be filed potentially against the trucking company as well.
California law allows a surviving spouse, domestic partner, children, or other dependents to seek compensation for the loss of financial support, companionship, and funeral expenses. When the at-fault driver is identified and taken into custody, the civil wrongful death process can move forward alongside any criminal proceedings. In California, wrongful death claims must generally be filed within two years of the date of death.
When a commercial truck is involved in a fatal crash, liability may extend beyond the individual driver to include the trucking company, depending on the driver’s employment status and whether safety regulations were followed. Federal trucking rules govern how drivers operate large vehicles, and violations of those rules can strengthen a wrongful death claim significantly.
A personal injury lawyer can help the family of the motorcyclist identify all liable parties, obtain trucking company records, and build a claim that reflects the full extent of their loss.
