Commercial Delivery Truck Accidents: Who Is Liable in Palmdale, CA?

When a commercial delivery vehicle is involved in a crash, liability questions can become more complicated than a typical two-car collision. Depending on whether the driver was an Amazon employee or a contracted third-party delivery partner, the company itself, the driver, or both may bear legal responsibility for the resulting damages. California law allows injured parties to pursue claims against corporate vehicle operators when negligence contributed to the crash.

Injuries from a crash that involves a delivery truck can range from whiplash and soft tissue damage to more serious fractures or head trauma, depending on the size and speed differential between vehicles.

California law generally allows an injured person two years from the date of a crash to file a personal injury lawsuit, under the state’s statute of limitations. Missing that deadline typically means losing the right to pursue compensation through the courts, regardless of how strong the underlying claim may be.

Because commercial carriers typically carry substantial insurance policies, a car accident attorney can help an injured person navigate the claims process, which usually involves corporate legal teams and insurance adjusters who may be quick to minimize a settlement offer. Identifying whether the driver was a direct employee or a contracted partner is often one of the first steps to determine how to proceed.
