Orange, CA – Multiple Injuries Reported in DUI Crash on SR-57 Fwy Near Orangewood Ave

Orange, CA (February 9, 2026) – Several people were hurt late Sunday night after a high-speed crash on the southbound SR-57 Freeway near Orangewood Avenue in Orange. The incident was reported around 11:23 p.m. on February 8, when a black vehicle traveling at high speeds struck the center divider and overturned.

After the initial crash, a chain reaction followed involving a white SUV, a gray minivan, a black Tesla, and a pedestrian. The sequence of impacts led to multiple people being hurt across the scene. Emergency units arrived and found five people with apparent injuries.

Medical crews assessed all injured parties at the scene. Four people were taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals for further treatment. One person declined transport after being evaluated.

The extent of the injuries has not been released. Several other vehicles were damaged after hitting debris scattered across the freeway, though no additional injuries were reported.

Authorities confirmed that one driver involved was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and taken to a hospital for treatment. Southbound lanes of the SR-57 Freeway were stopped for about an hour while crews worked to assist the injured and clear the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

Our thoughts remain with those injured as they continue to receive care and recover.

Why High-Speed DUI Crashes Often Lead to Serious Injuries

High-speed DUI crashes often result in serious injuries because impaired driving reduces reaction time and vehicle control. When speed is added, crashes tend to involve greater force, increasing the risk of harm to drivers, passengers, and nearby pedestrians. On busy freeways, one loss of control can quickly involve multiple vehicles.

People hurt in these crashes may experience head injuries, broken bones, back injuries, or internal trauma. Some symptoms appear right away, while others develop hours or days later. Medical visits help identify issues early and create records that support follow-up care.
