Compensation Available After a Fatal Crash in Los Angeles

After a fatal crash in Los Angeles, families may be able to pursue several types of compensation. These can include funeral and burial costs, medical bills from before death, loss of income, pain and suffering before death, and loss of companionship. Each category addresses a different part of the loss a family has faced.

Funeral and burial costs can place an immediate financial burden on a family after an unexpected death. In California, families may be able to seek compensation to help cover those expenses as part of a wrongful death claim. These costs can add up quickly.

If the person received emergency or hospital care before passing, those bills can become part of a claim. Treatment in the hours or days before death can lead to significant medical costs. California law may allow those expenses to be included when a family pursues a fatal crash claim.

When a family loses someone who contributed financially, the effects can stretch for years. California allows families to seek compensation for the income that person likely would have earned. This may include wages, benefits, business income, and other financial support the household depended on.

If the person felt pain or distress before passing, that period may be factored into a claim. This category focuses on what they went through, separate from family losses. Medical records and witness statements help show if this compensation applies.

Losing a family member means losing their support and relationship. California recognizes loss of companionship as a damage in fatal cases. This reflects the personal loss family members experience after a deadly collision.
