What Compensation Can I Recover After a Hit-and-Run in Los Angeles?
After a hit-and-run accident in Los Angeles, victims and their families may be entitled to pursue compensation for the losses associated with the crash. These incidents can be especially challenging because the at-fault driver leaves the scene, but legal options may still be available.
One of the primary forms of compensation is economic damages. These may include medical expenses related to emergency care, hospital treatment, and any ongoing medical needs.
In fatal cases, families may also recover funeral and burial costs, along with the loss of the victim’s future income and financial support.
Non-economic damages may also be available. These damages address the emotional and personal impact of the accident, including pain and suffering, loss of companionship, and the emotional distress experienced by surviving family members.
In hit-and-run cases, compensation may sometimes be pursued through uninsured motorist (UM) coverage, depending on the victim’s insurance policy. This type of coverage can help provide financial support when the responsible driver cannot be identified or located.
Because these cases can involve complex legal and insurance issues, it is important for families to act quickly, gather available evidence, and understand their rights under California law.
A consultation with a qualified auto accident attorney can help ensure that all potential sources of compensation are explored.
