Pomona, CA (April 2, 2026) – Two people lost their lives in a crash on Wednesday, April 1, at the intersection of Garey Avenue and County Road near the 60 Freeway in Pomona. Emergency units responded shortly after 9:30 p.m. following reports of a serious collision involving a fleeing driver.
The Pomona Police Department said the incident began on East Tenth Street during a domestic violence call. Officers spoke with a victim when the suspect returned in a truck and rammed a parked patrol vehicle. The suspect then fled, leading officers on a pursuit through the area.
Authorities said the chase ended when the suspect crashed into another vehicle at Garey Avenue and County Road. Both occupants of that vehicle suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Officials have not released their identities.
Officers took the driver, identified as 31-year-old Marshall Judson, into custody. Investigators said they located a firearm and related components in his vehicle and confirmed he did not have a valid driver’s license. Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
How Long Families Have to File a Wrongful Death Lawsuit in California
In California, families generally have two years from the date of a fatal crash to file a wrongful death lawsuit. This time limit applies in most cases and affects whether a claim can move forward in court. Acting within this period helps preserve legal options.
Filing within the allowed timeframe can make it easier to gather important records. Evidence such as police reports, witness statements, and medical or coroner findings may become harder to access over time. Keeping documents organized can help families understand what steps may follow.
Fatal crashes often create financial and logistical challenges for families. These may include funeral costs, loss of income, and other expenses tied to the loss. When a passenger or occupant is killed in a collision, their family may be able to pursue compensation depending on the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Because wrongful death claims can be complex, a car accident lawyer can explain how wrongful death laws apply in California. They can review available information, help organize records, and outline what types of compensation may be available based on the situation.
