How Insurance Claims Work After a Crash in California

Insurance claims after a crash in California usually depend on who caused the accident and the type of coverage involved. The state follows a fault-based system, which means the at-fault driver’s insurance may help cover damages and injuries.

After a collision, injured individuals may file a claim with their own insurance company or the other driver’s provider. This process often includes reviewing police reports, medical records, and repair estimates. Keeping documents organized can help make the process smoother and provide clear support for a claim.

In California, drivers must carry minimum liability insurance, which can cover injuries and property damage caused to others. Some people also carry additional coverage, such as uninsured motorist protection, which may apply in certain situations. Each claim depends on the details of the crash and the policies involved.

After an injury crash, a car accident lawyer can help explain how insurance laws apply and what options may be available. This may include handling communication with insurance companies and reviewing documentation. Legal guidance can also help clarify how compensation may apply to medical bills and other losses.
