Los Angeles, CA – Pregnant Woman Critically Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash Near Olympic Blvd & St. Andrews Pl

Los Angeles, CA (May 8, 2026) – A nine-month pregnant woman suffered critical injuries after a hit-and-run driver struck her near Olympic Boulevard and St. Andrews Place in the Koreatown area of Los Angeles on Wednesday, May 6, just before 9 p.m.

The woman and at least one other person were crossing the street inside a marked crosswalk when the driver hit them and fled the scene.

The woman suffered a brain bleed as a result of the crash. Her current condition and the condition of the other person struck have not been updated. The Los Angeles Police Department is actively working to identify the driver who fled.

The investigation remains ongoing.

We extend our deepest thoughts to the woman and her unborn child, and to everyone affected by this tragic crash.

Can I File a Claim if the Other Driver Fled the Scene?

Yes,  even if the driver who hit you fled the scene, you may still have options to recover compensation in California. A hit-and-run crash does not eliminate your right to seek financial recovery for your injuries.

California law requires all drivers to carry uninsured motorist coverage, also known as UM coverage, as part of their auto insurance policy. When a hit-and-run driver cannot be identified, your own uninsured motorist coverage typically steps in to cover medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Filing a UM claim after a hit-and-run follows a similar process to filing a standard insurance claim, though your insurer may conduct its own investigation before approving the claim.

For pedestrians, the process works similarly. If you were on foot and a hit-and-run driver injured you, you may access UM coverage through a family member’s auto insurance policy even if you do not own a vehicle yourself. California law allows pedestrians to seek this coverage under certain conditions, making it an important option to explore after a hit-and-run accident.

California has a two-year statute of limitations for personal injury claims. Acting quickly matters, particularly in hit-and-run cases where identifying the driver takes time, and evidence from the scene can disappear fast. A personal injury attorney can help preserve surveillance footage, gather witness statements, and work with investigators to build the strongest possible case.
