Who Pays Medical Bills After a Pedestrian Crash in Woodland Hills, CA?
In California, the at-fault driver’s auto liability insurance is generally responsible for a pedestrian’s medical bills, though health insurance or personal MedPay coverage usually pays first while a claim is being sorted out.
Serious pedestrian injuries, which include brain trauma, spinal damage, and multiple fractures, can require emergency surgery followed by weeks or months of physical therapy. Costs can pile up quickly, and gaps frequently appear between what health insurance covers upfront and what the at-fault driver’s policy will eventually reimburse.
Because California requires drivers to carry liability coverage but doesn’t guarantee it will be sufficient, a personal injury lawyer can help identify all available sources of recovery, including the driver’s policy limits, any underinsured motorist coverage on the pedestrian’s own auto policy, and umbrella policies where applicable.
To sort out which insurer pays first, and in what order, is commonly one of the more confusing parts of a pedestrian claim. At Saleh Law Group, we have helped many pedestrians across California work through the legal process while fully understanding their options.
