Long Beach, CA (December 28, 2025) – A woman lost her life on Saturday, December 27, after being struck by a car in Long Beach.
The crash occurred around 8:45 p.m. on Pacific Coast Highway near Cedar Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Witnesses said a 2013 Ford Fusion heading eastbound on Pacific Coast Highway hit the woman as she crossed southbound in the marked crosswalk.
Emergency crews arrived quickly and found the woman unconscious on the roadway. Paramedics from the Long Beach Fire Department provided life-saving treatment before rushing her to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, she died shortly after arrival. Officials have not yet released her identity.
Police confirmed that the driver stopped immediately after the collision and cooperated with officers at the scene. Investigators stated that speed, impairment, and distracted driving do not appear to be factors in the crash.
The Long Beach Police Department continues to review evidence and interview witnesses to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time.
Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in California
Pedestrian accidents happen far too often across California, claiming lives every week in cities large and small. Long Beach and its surrounding areas consistently see high crash rates due to heavy traffic and dense pedestrian activity. These recurring tragedies highlight the urgent need for safer crosswalks and greater driver awareness statewide.
Data from the California Office of Traffic Safety shows that more than 1,100 pedestrians lose their lives each year statewide, with thousands more seriously hurt. Urban areas such as Long Beach and Los Angeles consistently record some of the highest numbers of pedestrian collisions. Many victims are struck while using crosswalks or walking near high-traffic roads like Pacific Coast Highway.
The aftermath of a fatal pedestrian crash can be devastating.
Families who lose loved ones in pedestrian accidents may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Through this process, surviving relatives can seek compensation for funeral expenses, lost income, emotional suffering, and other related damages. A car accident lawyer can handle the legal process, gather crucial evidence, and deal with insurance companies that often try to reduce payouts.
Taking legal action can also help raise awareness and improve public safety. Families who speak out and hold negligent drivers accountable help make communities like Long Beach safer for others. Each case not only honors a loved one’s memory but also supports the effort to prevent future tragedies.
