Los Angeles, CA – 1 Killed, 3 Hurt in Multi-Vehicle Crash at Vermont & Colden Aves

Los Angeles, CA (May 13, 2026) – One person died and three others were hurt in a violent multi-vehicle crash in South Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon, May 12. The collision occurred just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of Vermont and Colden avenues.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Suburban was traveling southbound on Vermont Avenue at high speed when it clipped another car and likely went airborne. The vehicle flipped and smashed into several other cars before landing on its roof in the center median.

A woman who was stopped at a red light nearby witnessed the crash unfold. She told reporters she heard a loud impact and looked in her rearview mirror to see a truck and van flipping in the air multiple times, striking other vehicles as it came down.

Of the three people injured in the accident, two were taken to a hospital in critical condition. Authorities have not released the identity of the person who died. The third injured person’s condition was not immediately confirmed.

Investigators with the California Highway Patrol are working to determine the exact cause of the collision, though officials noted that speed was likely a factor in the crash.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the person who lost their life in this accident. We also wish a full and speedy recovery to those injured

When Should I Notify My Insurance Company After a Crash in Los Angeles?

After an accident in Los Angeles, you should notify your insurance company as soon as possible, ideally within 24 hours of the accident. Most insurance policies include a requirement to report crashes promptly, and delays can sometimes complicate the claims process. In a serious multi-vehicle collision, timely reporting becomes especially important.

Crashes involving multiple vehicles and severe injuries often lead to complex insurance claims. When more than two vehicles are involved, determining which policies apply and how damages get divided can take time. Injuries like traumatic brain trauma, internal bleeding, broken bones, and spinal damage are common in high-impact collisions.

Some of these conditions require long-term treatment, and early documentation helps connect those medical needs directly to the accident.

When notifying your insurance company, stick to basic facts — what happened, where, and when. Avoid making detailed statements about fault or signing anything before speaking with an attorney. Insurance companies may use early recorded statements during the claims process, and having legal guidance beforehand helps protect your interests.

A car accident lawyer can also communicate with insurers on your behalf and help make sure important deadlines are not missed.

In California, those hurt in car accidents may be eligible to seek compensation for medical bills, lost income, and other losses tied to the collision. An attorney can review the details of the accident, identify all potentially liable parties, and explain what options may realistically be available given the specific circumstances.
