Stanton, CA (June 2, 2026) – Two women were struck and killed by a driver at the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Cerritos Avenue in Stanton, California. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said the accident took place on Monday night, June 1.
Dispatchers received multiple 911 calls around 9 p.m. that reported that a BMW had hit two pedestrians at the intersection. Deputies arrived to find both women in the street. They were taken to a nearby hospital, where both were pronounced dead.
One woman was said to be in her 30s and the other in her 60s. No identities had been released, and any relationship between the two was not immediately known.
The driver remained at the scene and had not been arrested as of early Tuesday morning. Whether drugs or alcohol played a role had not been determined. The investigation is active.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families of both women.
How Long Do Families Have to File a Wrongful Death Lawsuit in Stanton, CA?
In California, the statute of limitations for a wrongful death claim is generally two years from the date of death. That means the victim’s family has a limited window to take legal action. If families miss that deadline, it typically bars them from pursuing compensation through the courts entirely, regardless of how strong the underlying claim may be.
Since it takes time to build a strong wrongful death claim, investigators and personal injury lawyers have to gather evidence, identify all liable parties, obtain the official crash report, and document the full financial and personal impact of the loss, which are steps that benefit from early attention. Families that wait until the deadline approaches can limit what is still available.
California law allows wrongful death claims to seek compensation for funeral and burial costs, lost income the deceased would have provided, and the loss of companionship, guidance, and support that surviving family members now face. These damages can be substantial, particularly when the deceased was a primary earner or a caregiver.
