How Insurance Claims Work After a Bicycle Accident in Lancaster, CA

Insurance claims after a bicycle collision typically start with the driver’s auto liability coverage, since California requires drivers to carry at least $15,000 in bodily injury coverage per person. That minimum usually falls short of covering serious injuries, which is why cyclists sometimes need to look beyond the driver’s policy for full compensation.

If the other driver’s coverage isn’t enough, an injured cyclist may be able to turn to their own uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage, assuming they carry auto insurance themselves or are covered under a household policy. Medical payments coverage, sometimes called MedPay, can also help offset hospital bills while a claim is still being sorted out.

Insurance adjusters frequently move quickly to gather statements after a crash, and early offers don’t always reflect the full cost of ongoing treatment or lost income. This is where a personal injury lawyer’s involvement tends to matter most, since reviewing policy limits, calculating long-term medical needs, and pushing back on lowball settlement offers all require close attention to detail that can be easy to miss when dealing directly with an insurer.

Dealing with an insurance claim after being hit by a vehicle can feel overwhelming, especially while recovering from an injury. At Saleh Law Group, we have worked with cyclists across California navigating these exact issues.
