Laguna Niguel, CA – Man Burned in Second-Story Condo Fire on Via Luis

Laguna Niguel, CA (May 7, 2026) – A man suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out at a second-story condominium on Via Luis in Laguna Niguel on Wednesday, May 6. Laguna Beach Fire Department and emergency units arrived at approximately 11:30 a.m. to find heavy fire coming from the unit.

Firefighters worked through heavy storage conditions inside the home as they fought to contain the flames and search the property. Due to the intensity of the fire, crews requested a second alarm to bring additional resources to the scene.

Firefighter paramedics treated the injured man at the scene and transported him to a hospital for further care. His current condition has not been publicly released.

Emergency crews successfully contained the fire to a single unit, preventing the flames from spreading to adjoining condos. Neighboring units were saved from damage thanks to the rapid response effort.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire.

We extend our wishes for a full and speedy recovery to the man injured as he escaped the blaze.

Who Can Be Liable for Injuries in a Residential Fire in Laguna Niguel?

When someone suffers injuries in a residential fire in California, more than one party may bear legal responsibility depending on the circumstances. Liability can fall on a property owner, a landlord, a condo association, a contractor, or even a product manufacturer, and in some cases, multiple parties may share fault.

In condominium buildings, liability questions often center on who was responsible for maintaining the unit and common areas. A landlord or property management company may be held responsible for resulting injuries if they fail to install working smoke detectors, maintain safe electrical systems, or address known fire hazards.

California law places clear duties on property owners to keep their premises reasonably safe for occupants and guests.

Burn injuries are among the most serious and painful injuries a person can experience. Treatment often requires emergency care, surgery, skin grafts, and long-term rehabilitation. Scarring and nerve damage can affect a person’s quality of life for years. Medical costs accumulate quickly, and many burn injury survivors face extended time away from work during recovery.

Documenting everything after a residential fire matters. This includes photos of the scene before repairs begin, medical records, communications with insurance companies, and any correspondence with a landlord or property manager. If you preserve this evidence early, it helps build a clearer picture of what happened and who may be responsible.

A personal injury lawyer can play a key role after a residential fire injury. From reviewing maintenance records and fire investigation reports to identifying all liable parties, a lawyer can help injured people understand what legal options may be available.
