What Should Families Do After a Fatal Motorcycle Accident in The San Fernando Valley?

After a fatal motorcycle accident in the San Fernando Valley, families should focus first on securing legal and medical documentation as quickly as possible. Time matters significantly in these cases. Evidence from freeway crashes can disappear within hours, and acting early helps preserve the information families may need later.

The first step is to obtain the official crash report from the California Highway Patrol. This report contains key details about the collision, including the location, time, vehicle descriptions, and any initial findings from responding officers. Families can request this report online through the CHP’s records portal, usually within a few days of the accident.

California law gives families two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death lawsuit. While two years may feel like a long time, building a strong case takes time. Witness statements, surveillance footage, and legal guidance from a personal injury lawyer all require dedication and early action. And waiting too long can make this process significantly harder.

Families dealing with the loss of a loved one in a fatal crash often face financial pressure alongside grief. Funeral costs, loss of income, and other financial burdens can add up quickly. A wrongful death claim may allow surviving family members to seek compensation for these losses, though outcomes depend on the specific facts of each case.
